This is a more sensitive dipstick test that can detect a tiny amount of protein called albumin in the urine. People who have an increased risk of developing kidney diseases, such as those with diabetes or high blood pressure, should have this test or an albumin-to-creatinine ratio
Albumin: creatinine ratio (ACR) is the preferred test for the detection of small amounts of albumin in the urine. Proteinuria and microalbuminuria are both signs of renal involvement in the disease process and are risk factors for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Measurement forms part of the diagnosis, staging, and monitoring of chronic kidney disease (CKD). ACR is the recommended method for people with diabetes and hypertension.
